Mountain Top Engagement Session - Scott & Kelly

Spokane Anniversary Session

This was an extra special mountain top engagement session – not only because I’m a Spokane gal in the UT mountains, but because I was photographing my older brother & his soon-to-be bride in all of their love. I also have never laughed so hard at a session AND had so much fun. Maybe it’s because trying to take photos of your BROTHER lends itself to feeling like your herding cats – it’s hard for them to take you seriously and they are more likely to bring out their silly side than the serious, intimate side. Luckily they were in front of my camera long enough that I got a few serious ones too 😉

Lots of “S” words come to mind with this one. Scott. Stack-to-Be. Session. Shotguns. Sunlight. Sexy legs (Kelly’s, NOT SCOTT’s, haha). Smiles. Snuggles. Softness. Silliness. Smooches. Snow. Surreal (more on that in a second).

It’s a surreal feeling (in the absolute best way possible) to witness your older brother in love and with the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with. It’s like…I grew up being bullied by this older brother while simultaneously looking up to him. Wondering who we’d be when we were older and who we would end up with. I’ve seen him at his worst and most embarrassing (haha) and then watched as he grew up and grew into the man he is today. And now, sitting in front of my camera kissing + smiling + acting silly, he’s arrived at this place and with this beautiful, wonderful woman. She’s truly better than I could have ever imagined!

Why a Mountain Top Engagement Session?

We chose to have their engagement session on a mountain top because this is truly where they spend most of their time. When they aren’t hiking & running up in the mountains in the spring, summer, and fall, they are skiing! And not just at the resorts – Scott loves to ski tour in the backcountry. He’s completed the WURL (it’s a challenge where you hit all the peaks in the Lower Cottonwood Canyon in 24 hours or less) and he’s just an overall beast in the outside world. They are getting married in the mountains so it only made sense to shoot their photos outside. We had to throw in some fun ones of shotgunning beers as its a fun challenge that they love to compete with each other with. Not gonna name the winner but lets just say it begins with a K….

I truly don’t know how Scott got so lucky as to snag someone as incredible as Kelly, but I can’t wait to officially call her my sister. This summer can’t come soon enough!

Enjoy! – xoxo, Hannah

You’re only engaged once together. Enjoy it, soak it all in, and get the photos taken! As nice as it is to have your formal bridal photos, it’s nice to have more casual photos of the two of you. It’s also important to document your love as it grows – whether it be at your one year anniversary or your 10th. Everyone has their own love story.
And I love documenting people’s stories.
